The leveled playing field of educated workers in Canada

New immigrants are more likely to be unemployed than individuals born in Canada, according to data from Statistics Canada. While immigrants with more education face less unemployment, the disparity between them and individuals born in Canada is far greater. New immigrants with a university degree face an unemployment rate of 14.4 per cent, compared to 3.5 per cent for individuals born in Canada.

Tiny-minded Tim Hudak is trying to convince voters that Dalton's "hire a skilled new Canadian" plan is unfair.

This just doesn't add up.

First of all, the playing field is NOT leveled so don't give me this "treat everyone the same" crap. That utopian world Hudak refers to does not exist. In reality, there are major gaps and Dalton's program is an attempt at addressing this.

Will it solve all underemployemnt issues? No. But it is a start. I'd rather start there than start bashing "foreign workers".

Secondly, if these skilled jobs such as pharmacist positions are vacant, it is because the Canadian-born working class isn't qualified to fill it. If they had the required skills, they would be hired already!

So we have skilled newcomers who were educated on someone else's dime to fill the jobs, Canadian-born who don't qualify, and general public waiting in a long line at the pharmacy.

Why can't we figure out this puzzle?!



Another underlying issue: you have over-educated taxi drivers, who, in tern, are employed at jobs that should be left to those who don't have a post-secondary education. If the taxi driver moves to a skilled job he studied for, he's a happier person, he's paying MORE taxes, and he opens up a job for someone else.
